Smashwords Interview With Author C.R. Misty

C.R.Misty, the author of the International Boundaries Series | Book 1: Simple Affair and Book 2: Deeply Bound, shares about her experiences in reading and writing.

When did you first start writing?

I started to focus on my writing in 2012 and I self-published my first novel in 2013. My first works are in sci-fi and now I am about to release a trilogy in the romance genre.

What is your e-reading device of choice?

It's had to say because when I am doing different activities during the day my preferences change. I own a Kobo which I love and will use it when I am relaxing. I also read e-books from the kindle app on my smartphone when I'm traveling. If I am in the gym or walking I use my smartphone but open up wattpad because there is an audio feature in wattpad that allows you to listen to chapters so that you can focus your eyes on other things.

What motivated you to become an indie author?

I have always loved stories whether it be in book, movie or TV form. When I was a child my mom used to read to me until I learned to read. I love reading and after reading so many great books and learning about the success stories in these passed few years of self-published authors who had chased their dreams and made them a reality, I decided to try my hand at the craft. I would write a little bit everyday, about 200 words at least and after keeping an easy routine I fell in love with writing and eventually went on to writing novels.

What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?

Social media such as Facebook & Twitter. I have also had success with Wattpad. The best marketing is by word of mouth and I have been lucky to have a great network of friends & family.

Describe your desk

It used to be a mess but I have since cleaned up my act. I have an L-shaped desk where I manage my writing. I have some family photos, USB sticks, pens, pencils, paper and erasers! I have hung my writing achievements above my desk.

How has Smashwords contributed to your success?

Smashwords has been a major roll. They have created a tool for authors to easily publish their work and they have a fantastic distribution network. They also have provided me the tools for success with providing great "how to" books as well as their blog is always informative with the latest and greatest news for authors.

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?

I love to get lost in the creative process of it, creating characters that I personally adore and challenge them. To me writing is time to relax and step out of the norms of everyday life and also allows me to reflect. Writing also means learning. Learning about how to create the most realistic situations that you can as well as learning the technical details on actually writing, like what forms a complete sentence, where to place the commas, how to write a conversation between characters that flows the best. I have learned so much with this past time. Writing has gotten me to get out of my introverted shell and learn how to network with others that have similar interest, to learning about places and things that I wouldn't normally encounter in my day to day life.

What do your fans mean to you?

Fans are everything, to write a story is one thing, to share it with the world is another and to have a reader show interest, read your work and tell you that they love it means the world! Fans are cheerleaders and they are passionate and honest.

What are you working on next?

I'm currently in the editing phase of Book 3 Something Desired of The International Boundaries Series as well as I have a couple of test readers providing feedback so that I can add final touches to the story line. Something Desired will be published June 2017 and then after that I will focus on my sci-fi writing for my next task.

Who are your favorite authors?

Anne Rice, George R. R Martin, Robert Ludlum, J.K. Rowling, Suzanne Collins, Stephenie Meyer, Dan Brown and Colleen Hoover
